Troy—Rensselaer
County Legislator Peter D. Grimm will file legislation Tuesday supporting efforts of United States Senators Schumer and Gillibrand
to redirect federal funding rejected by other states to New York State.
“This substantial transportation investment of our rail lines also serves to improve our tourism industry and
commerce dollars while reducing traffic congestion and environmental impacts by bringing together people, business and communities,”
said Grimm.
New York has one of the nation’s
most heavily utilized rail corridors. The Rensselaer Rail Station located directly across the Hudson River
from Albany is situated in the heart of the Empire and Northeast Corridors. Last year, New York’s
rail lines saw, on average, double digit increases in ridership.
“New York State is positioned
and ready to take these dollars and invest them in the development of our rail systems. New York’s
shared commitment will modernize rail infrastructure while contributing to future economic growth of the Capital Region and
our nation,” Grimm added.
