Peter Grimm is a life-long resident of Rensselaer County and has lived in the City of Troy for 50 years.
He attended Saint Patrick's School, Saint Mary's Academy and is a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College.
Peter was elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature in November of 2005, his
first elective office. He was re-elected in 2009. Representing the City of Troy, Grimm brings an enthusiasm and energy to
the city’s citizen spirit.
An active community volunteer in Troy for decades, he believes in the effectiveness
of grassroots participation in community quality-of-life issues.
Grimm
is President and founding board member of “Friends of Prospect Park,” an organization that has worked to preserve
and rejuvenate one of Troy’s outstanding natural and recreational resources. He also founded the “Clean Alleys”
program, a volunteer effort to make Troy’s alleys cleaner and safer.
Peter was a founding board
member of Troy United Ink, a publication devoted to strengthening pride in Troy through highlighting its diverse
neighborhoods. He "adopted" Troy's Vietnam and WWII memorials. He has been sprucing them up as a volunteer
for years.
Peter has also played active volunteer roles with the League of Women Voters, Rensselaer County
Historical Society, the Victorian Stroll, and the Piggyback Council.
Most recently, Grimm has worked diligently
as a founding Board Member of the Troy Community Food Cooperative. He is especially eager to see the Congress Street
market open its doors to not only enhance the quality of life for Trojans, but to bring new jobs to the downtown area. As
in many other neighboring communities, Troy’s Community Food Coop will be a welcome addition to the city.
Peter
is a proven manager. He founded the Old Daley Inn Catering in Troy, is the former owner of the Spyro Gyro Cafe, and currently
is the Special Projects Manager at Tanglewood. He is one of nine children, all are Troy natives.
